About VIES

How much will my site cost?

This is a tricky question. The cost of a site is worked based primarily on how long it takes to develop. As a basic guidline my fee is £150 a day. So if the estimate a project will take me 5 days to complete once the design sketch has been approved the quote will be for £750.

Do I need to supply anything for my site to be created?

All I need from you to get started on your site is the inital design brief telling me what you want, any images and color scheme you want including and if your site requires a database, the data to go in it.

What do I get for my money?

Good question. You get my initial consultation to determine exactly what you want. Preliminary design sketches of your site. After which I will then build your site and host it for you. Once hosted I will then be available to maintain it and if your require any changes at a later date these can be done at an hourly rate.

What is hosting?

Hosting is storing the files on a special computer where they can be retreived from the internet. I will arrange the hosting for you so I can ensure the smooth running of your site and access it easily if you require changes. The standard fee for this is £10 a year. You may use a seperate hosting company if you wish, however if you do so uploading the site and maintaining it will be your responsibility.

How will people find my site?

I include SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) in the design phase. This means the site will written in such a manner as to attract the attention of Search Engines. No web designer can guarantee a top ranking but I can certainly get you noticed. However it will take a few weeks for this to start to work after your site goes live. Don’t forget other techniques you can use to get visitors, like word of mouth, posters, newspapers and Pay-Per-Click advertising.

How long will take before my site is live?

This depends entirely the complexity of the site. Reletively simple site can be written in a few days and then should be live a couple of days after that once the domain name is registered. More sophisticated sites can months to develop.

I alread have a domain name. Can I transfer it to the site you write for me?

Yes that’s not normally a problem. You will need to contact the company that you have currently registered the domain name with and get the to release. Then there is small transfer fee of £10 to register it for the new site.

Can I update my own web site once it's live?

I can provide a CMS (Content Management System), which will you allow to change certain parts. However you will not able to access the source code directly to prevent damage. In much the same way you wouldn’t let someone without a driving license drive your Porsche (if your lucky enough to own one), letting someone who is not qualified tinker around with the source code is only going to end in tears. One full stop out of place and it could cause the digital equivelent to a pile up on the M25.

Why should I choose you to build my site rather than any other designer?

I have been designing web sites for over ten years now. I initally learnt to do it for fun, believe it or not. I was always interested in computers so when I’m designing your site, I’m not just fuelled by the size of the pay cheque but also by a passion for design and to create a piece of interactive art work with each site I design.
